Itanagar: In a move to enhance security along the inter-state boundary, the Arunachal Pradesh government is mulling to install artificial intelligence (AI)-powered CCTV cameras at 22 check gates.

This was informed by Arunachal Pradesh home minister Mama Natung.

This initiative aims to prevent the entry of unwanted individuals and prohibited items through these checkpoints, said Arunachal Pradesh home minister Mama Natung.

During question hour in the Arunachal Pradesh assembly, Natung responded to a query from NCP (Ajit Pawar) member Likha Soni, stating that all 30 check gates are currently under stringent supervision to curb the infiltration of undesirable social elements and drugs.

“The government is always committed to ensuring proper facilities at the check gates for the safety of people and the state,” said Natung.

Addressing the specific case of the Dirak check gate in Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh, which serves as a gateway to several other districts, Natung noted that it has been operational since 1989 and is equipped with proper infrastructure.

“There are three sentry posts at the gate, two managed by CRPF and one by state police. CCTV cameras have been installed for proper surveillance,” he added.

The Arunachal Pradesh home minister also highlighted the state cabinet's decision last year to sanction 3000 new police personnel posts to address manpower shortages across many police stations in the state.
