Dibrugarh: A joint operation by the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles and Pongchau police resulted in the apprehension of a civilian on Monday, who was later released after locals disputed his alleged links with the insurgent group NSCN (K-YA).

The individual, identified as Longna Pansa, son of Khonglai Pansa, a resident of Kunnu village in Longding district, was detained following intelligence reports suggesting his involvement with the NSCN (K-YA).

However, locals vehemently denied these allegations, asserting Pansa's innocence.

"He was in no way involved with the NSCN (K-YA). He is innocent. Security forces mistakenly nabbed him," stated a group of local residents.

Following a thorough investigation and considering the strong support from the community, authorities decided to release Pansa.

The incident has raised concerns about the accuracy of intelligence sources and the need for careful verification before taking such actions.
