Guwahati: A National Socialist Council of Nagalim-Khaplang (NSCN-K) cadre surrendered before the Assam Rifles in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday.

The 49-year-old self-styled major of the banned militant outfit, Azen Wangsu, laid down his arms before the Khonsa battalion of the central paramilitary force.

Wangsu, hailing from Niausa village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district, had joined the outfit 12 years ago.

The Assam Rifles established contact with Wangsu through his family and encouraged him to surrender.

After a prolonged persuasion, Wangsu finally surrendered before the Assam Rifles on Tuesday morning along with a .32 pistol.

The Assam Rifles later handed him over to the Khonsa police for further investigation.
