Arunachal: Minister Wangki Lowang's PSO held for firing at resort

Deomali: A police constable serving as the personal security officer (PSO) to the Environment & Forest Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Wangki Lowang, was detained by Tirap police for allegedly firing shots at a resort.

The incident occurred on the night of October 18-19.

Videos of the constable firing his service rifle quickly circulated on social media, sparking outrage among local residents.

According to reports, the constable, identified as Bijoy Dodum, got into a dispute with some locals before opening fire. While no one was injured, the incident created tension in the area.

Tirap police arrested the constable overnight and later transferred him back to the security cell in Itanagar.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the constable had fired five rounds from his service rifle. Police recovered three spent cartridges at the scene of the incident and seized his weapon.

Tirap SP Kirli Padu informed the SP (security) of the incident and the details of the investigation.

“During preliminary interrogation conducted at the Deomali police station, the constable has admitted to having fired five rounds out of thirty rounds from his service rifle. The place of occurrence, which is near KVK Deomali, has been visited and examined thoroughly, and three fired shells were recovered and seized. The police also seized his service rifle,” a letter from Tirap SP Kirli Padu to the SP (security), PHQ read.

In response, the SP (Security), Rohit Rajbir Singh, ordered the constable to report back to the security office. The constable has been placed under suspension, and a departmental inquiry is underway.
