Pasighat: The Arunachal Pradesh police arrested a couple from New Delhi on charges of running a jewellery scam.

The couple identified as Rajan Kalikoty and his wife Sarita Sonar, was apprehended from the national capital with the assistance of the Delhi Police on June 29.

According to East Siang Superintendent of Police (SP) Sachin Kumar Singhal, the arrest came after Yongge Tamut filed an FIR on June 27.

Tamut alleged that she had paid the couple, who ran a jewellery shop near Solung Ground in Pasighat, ?42,000 as an advance payment for custom jewellery. The promised delivery date was 25 days later, on March 29th, 2024.

"However, Tamut never received the jewellery as promised. The couple stopped returning her calls and vanished from their rented accommodation," said SP Singhal.

Further investigation in the market area revealed that Tamut wasn't the only victim. Several others, including Kamala Chettry, Pumam Chettry, and Bina Sonar, had also been cheated by the couple and had filed similar complaints with the police.

Based on the evidence, a case (u/s 420/120 B/34 IPC) was registered against the couple, and Sub-Inspector Kodak Dagium was assigned the investigation.

"A police team led by SI Dagium and supervised by myself meticulously tracked down the accused," said SP Singhal.

"With the help of the Delhi Police, they were located at the residence of Kalpana Sharma, Sarita Sonar's sister, in New Delhi. The couple was brought back to Pasighat police station on June 29," he added.
