GUWAHATI: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati has installed five automatic weather stations in remote and hilly regions in Arunachal Pradesh with the help of the Indian Army.

These stations will work only in army areas, not in civil areas, said an IMD official in Guwahati.

An automated weather station is an integrated system of components that are used to measure, record, and often transmit weather parameters such as temperature, wind speed and direction, solar radiation, and precipitation. Weather stations are used on land and sea for a variety of operational and research purposes.

It is a great challenge to maintain the systems for continuous receipt of weather data from such regions.
