On Friday, General Dwivedi met with Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Lieutenant General R.C. Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding 3 Corps, and Major General Ravroop Singh, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

In a social media post, Chief Minister Singh described the meeting as productive, stating, "I deeply appreciate General Dwivedi’s visit to Manipur. We discussed critical issues concerning the current situation in our state and reaffirmed our commitment to cooperating with the security forces to effectively address our challenges and maintain peace and harmony."

General Dwivedi’s visit marks his first trip to the state since he assumed the role of COAS on June 30, 2024.

Upon arriving at Imphal Airport on Friday, he was warmly welcomed by Major General Ravroop Singh before heading to the IGAR (South) office in Matripukhri, about 8 km from Imphal.

The general’s visit comes in the wake of ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur, which began on May 3, 2023.

The conflict, which originated in Churachandpur district following a protest march, has resulted in over 226 deaths and displaced 60,000 individuals.
