Guwahati: Kankana Narayan Dev, an architect and researcher from Assam, has been recognized as one of the 75 most esteemed women architects in India.

Dev's passion lies in creating architecture that benefits both people and the planet.

She has made significant contributions to addressing the housing needs of displaced communities in the Northeast, often using sustainable materials like bamboo.

Her work is currently on display in the 'India Art, Architecture and Design Biennale' held at Red Fort, New Delhi.

Her innovative prefabricated modular pucca bamboo houses, developed with support from the Directorate of Science and Technology Industrial Research, are currently showcased at the India Art, Architecture and Design Biennale at Red Fort, Delhi.

She holds a doctorate from IIT Guwahati and currently teaches at the Department of Design, at Tezpur University. Her professional journey also includes working as a Project Architect for the Assam State Disaster Management Training Program.

She founded the social enterprise Darrang Eco Works, which focuses on sustainable construction using bamboo, and even curates a children's library in one of her prototype houses.

This library, supported by her brother, caters to the healthcare needs of underprivileged children.
