1,000 Bangladeshis seek refuge in India amidst unrest
Cooch Behar: Approximately 1,000 Bangladeshi nationals approached the Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday, seeking refuge in India amidst ongoing unrest in their country.
The incident occurred at the India-Bangladesh international border in Cooch Behar district, West Bengal.
A BSF official said the force immediately contacted their counterparts, the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB), to take back the individuals.
The situation was managed without escalation, thanks to the coordinated efforts of both border guarding forces.
While primarily tasked with securing India's borders, the BSF has faced new challenges due to the influx of refugees.
The force has demonstrated professionalism in handling this delicate issue, balancing humanitarian concerns with border security.
"The quick and coordinated response by the BSF and India's civil administration was instrumental in maintaining order," the official added.
